Sean Maloney, Owner Operator

Sean discovered his passion for welding while attending college, where he began taking night classes to learn the trade. He was drawn to the process of creating things by hand and quickly found a deep appreciation for working with metal. That following summer, he took an apprenticeship as a blacksmith in Loomis, California, where his love for metalwork and fabrication truly took shape. During this time, he learned how to fabricate ornamental railings, gates, staircases, and custom pieces tailored to each client’s needs.

Over the years, Sean continued to expand his skills and experience. He moved to the Lake Tahoe area, where he spent three winters helping a friend operate a dog sled tour business. While there, he remained deeply connected to metal fabrication and welding and eventually transitioned into the ski industry. For more than a decade, he welded and fabricated at some of Tahoe’s most well known resorts.

After relocating to the Carson Valley with his wife to start a family, Sean pursued new challenges in the metalworking industry. He began working in structural steel, contributing to the construction of custom homes, high rise apartments, and hotels throughout California and Nevada. His career then led him into the natural gas industry, where he welded gas lines and processing plants. From there, he moved into geothermal power plants and drill rigs, supporting the sustainable energy sector. This work took him across Eastern Nevada, California, and the islands of Hawaii.

In 2021, Sean founded Iron Dog Metals, a dream more than twenty years in the making. What began as a passion grew into a business dedicated to helping others with their welding and metal fabrication needs. Today, Iron Dog Metals proudly serves local communities as well as clients throughout Nevada, California, and Hawaii.
